Serán Announces Expanded Spray Drying Capabilities for Pre-Clinical Programs

Serán, a science driven CDMO, expands its early development capabilities with the addition of a pre-clinical small-scale custom spray dryer. This additional capability follows recent expansion of Serán's development facilities at the Bend, Oregon site.

To facilitate formulation screening with discovery stage API, Serán’s new SD-5 for preclinical product development achieves high yields with batch sizes <50 mg of API. This new capability will enable rapid formulation screening of spray dried dispersions with minimal API. This innovative spray dryer design minimizes equipment surface area on which unrecoverable product can build up and provides containment for potent pre-tox compounds. Lead formulations can then be scaled up on Serán’s SD-45 and SD-90 spray dryers to produce larger batches for preclinical studies and support formulation and process transfer into clinical manufacturing.

The SD-5 is the 6th custom spray dryer in operation at Serán, allowing expedited formulation development and seamless scale up to manufacturing from mg to 100s of kgs. Serán provides a variety of solid oral dosage forms including tablets, capsules, granules and PiB.
